The Role
We are looking for a  director of Digital and Innovation who will be working with  Directors/Heads including innovation & digitally focused staff in departments across the organisation whilst reporting to the Artistic Director
Main Purpose of the Post
To be a visionary thought leader working across the organisation, nurturing innovation and leading digital strategy, plans, capacity, and implementation across the teams including Artistic, Creative Learning, Technical and Production, Audiences Development, Commercial and Estates. 
Working collaboratively with departmental leads, the Executive Leadership team and the Board you will conceptualize and deliver what innovation and digital ambition means for them within a fast-changing tech landscape.
You must bring credibility, energy and resilience to the role and commercial and business acumen. You will be an effective motivator, a natural innovator, and a change leader.
  • To lead on an innovation and tech strategy for the organistaion, working closely with departmental leads across the whole organisation to build a collaborative, experimental and dynamic approach to innovation and tech;
  • To establish, scope and deliver initiatives that embed new thinking across the organisation; to lead on planning and strategies for implementation and to co-ordinate project teams as needed.
  • Working with our Artistic and Creative Engagement teams to lead on the development of inspirational artistic and engagement experiences across digital platforms that attract new and diverse audiences; to support artists and creatives in developing their practice through digital experimentation; to be the lead for new digital concepts and emerging technologies, including NFTs, XR, Web3 etc and explore, scope and test them; to support our and Producing and Technical teams to embed innovation and digital infrastructure in the planning and delivery of performances and exhibitions;
  • Support the strategy and work of the Head of Digital Engagement to build a world-leading, audience-focussed digital presence for through creative content strategies and creation across all digital media
  • Working with our Estates and Visitor Experience teams to innovate and enhance the visitor experience through tech-driven wayfinding and engagement opportunities.
  • Working with our Commercial and Development teams to negotiate funded tech-sector partnerships that stimulate creative content and continuous product development and increase our responsiveness to new commercial and trading opportunities.
  • To work with our People and Culture team to increase digital and literacy skills and build digital capability across the organisation; to develop and grow a team of skilled professionals with the right balance of creativity, technical skills and commerciality.
  • Championing a data driven approach to deepening engagement and prioritising the development of our digital products.
  • Play a key role in the strategic innovation leadership of the organisation to represent them nationally and internationally in innovation forums; be outward facing and maintain industry and sectoral contacts.
Person Specification
You will need to have:
  • A successful record of setting and successfully delivering a digital strategy which includes both content and commercial objectives.
  • Experience of developing and implementing inspirational digital projects and a digital content strategy, including experience of commissioning, and creating engaging content for a broad audience.
  • In depth knowledge of current innovations and trends in digital technology and familiarity with technology architecture, systems and infrastructure required to underpin digital services.
  • Leadership excellence, with highly tuned inter-personal , influencing and communication skills combined with the ability to take people through change processes and gain commitment to new models of working.
  • An understanding of the principles of Equality and Diversity in the workplace and the ability to apply these in practice.
  • Strong analytical skills, and solutions focussed approach, be able to manage competing demands within specific deadlines and make effective decisions in a timely manner.
  • Strong financial acumen and commercial awareness.
  • Experience of leading teams along with credibility and confidence working at senior levels in an organisation and working across a range of business functions.
  • An understanding of the value of data and empowering organisations to make key decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills: written and verbal, including ability to write reports and polices;
  • Experience and understanding of cultural and/or creative industries sectors and an understanding of the issues facing it.
