Head of Digital Engagement

The Role:
We are looking for a Head of Digital Engagement to work in theirMarketing & Communications Department. You will be responsible for working with the Director of audiences and will have the opportunity to review the current digital staff provision with an eye towards strengthening output. The number and nature of direct reports will therefore be established as part of this process, but the role will have line management responsibilities.
Role overview:
- Leadership of a department responsible for social media, content creation, website development, website management, digital marketing, e-CRM and analytics.
- Creation and implementation of the digital engagement strategy, emphasising a powerful and engaging storytelling strategy across all our channels, supporting their artistic, creative learning and public participation programmes, reaching existing and potential future audiences.
- Day to day management of a website transformation project to ensure the project team delivers an effective new website which meets organisational, and audience aims and objectives.
- Oversight of the organisation’s Streams, the new Vimeo OTT streaming platform
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership- Develop and embed an organisational digital engagement strategy in collaboration with the Director of Audiences, which supports the strategic and brand aims through the effective use of digital channels and media.
- Work with Development and Marketing to drive online response rates and supporter engagement, online revenue growth and greater levels of engagement and loyalty with audiences.
- Develop and direct consistent methodologies to analyse data and content consumption and define content needs from across the organisation.
- Work with the Audience Insights team to exploit analytics, social media monitoring and user testing to measure impact and inform strategic direction and development
- Monitor trends in web development and user behaviour, using findings to inform content and technical development
- Increase their reach and influence online, including ensuring all content is optimised for search engines, maximising reach and impact of social media activities, ensuring they takes advantage of new social media opportunities, overseeing relationship building with key online influencers, maximising impact of paid search activities.
- Develop and lead digital content strategy, ensuring and supporting the effective creation, capture and ongoing management of digital content and supporting a wider audience development strategy
- Build collaborative relationships across the whole organisation to develop a storytelling, narrative content approach, amplifying our ambition, brand, impact, and the scale of work they do.
- Build key industry partnerships to support content distribution and increase reach
- Manage the team with a comprehensive production schedule, KPI management and structure to ensure audience and growth objectives are met
- Support the production plan/schedule and resource allocation to ensure deadlines are met
- Oversee a broad range of rich digital content types including video, text, audio, playlists, podcasts
- Help to develop our digital tone of voice
Technical development- Take the Departmental day to day lead for a Website Development Project providing guidance and support to the development team and/or external suppliers, liaising with internal stakeholders and monitoring progress against key targets.
- Take the Departmental day to day lead and management of their Streams, Vimeo platform, working with colleagues across the organisation to deliver a consistent on demand content schedule, and smooth running of live streams
- Manage a range of suppliers both on a retained and project basis – including retained development and user experience agencies, film production agencies, designers, and freelance content contributors
- Work with suppliers and stakeholders throughout the development cycle. Duties include writing design and technical briefs, scoping technical development projects with colleagues and suppliers, gathering requirements from audiences, delivering quality assurance testing and user acceptance testing of new development projects
Digital Marketing- Work with Head of Campaigns and Head of Audience Insight to ensure best use of digital channels to support marketing campaigns, optimising and widening audience reach and engagement and helping to drive increased ticket sales.
- Work with Fundraising and Membership teams to increase revenue gained through digital channels, drive membership acquisitions and deepen levels of supporter engagement.
- Support SEO and paid digital campaign activity, providing guidance and advice to marketing colleagues.
- Lead on developments to enhance and widen foyer digital communications, including the strategic development of information screens content
- Provide leadership in the development of any other platform development, identifying user and organisational needs and overseeing the development of new platforms as appropriate.
Management- Help shape and lead the digital team to provide core expertise and innovation
- Use an enabling management style to line manage and develop staff including facilitating appropriate professional development, undertaking supervisions/appraisals
- Attend team meetings and make a positive contribution to the strategic development of the Audiences Division.
Financial management- Operate as cost effectively as possible, including external contracts and service provider arrangements.
- Accountable for the efficient management of the Department’s budget
- Lead budget and activity planning activities ensuring effective budget preparation, planning, monitoring, and review
- Produce business cases for increased investment in digital when appropriate
KEY SKILLS- Proven ability and previous successful experience of leading the development and implementation of digital engagement strategy for a large and complex organisation.
- Experience of successfully leading a multi-disciplinary digital team.
- A strong track record in leading large, complex digital projects.
- Experience of managing and leading the development of a large and engaged social media presence on behalf of an organisation; successfully protecting and enhancing brand, engagement, and audience development
- A successful record in growing online communities in size and engagement.
- Experience of working with stakeholders to translate a broad range of aims and objectives into an effective, measurable digital programme that is aligned to the overall digital strategy.
- A strong track record in generating engaging content across a range of digital channels and media.
- Understanding of planning and evaluating digital marketing campaigns
- Experience of working with content management systems
- Knowledge of new developments in digital and how to apply them
- Strong interpersonal skills, applying tact and diplomacy to work with people across the organisation.
- Understanding of equal opportunities, access and inclusion and the ability to incorporate these into all aspects of work with particular emphasis on their desire to diversify its workforce.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience in an accessible and engaging way
