- Senior Media Relations Manager
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: DOE base salary + extensive package
Location: London, Manchester OR Leeds + WFH 2 days a week

The Organisation/Role:
Our client is a niche firm specialising in the more complex aspects of personal injury and human rights law. Committed to achieving access to justice for all including full, fair compensation by providing first-rate legal advice.
Role:
To support and assist in leading the media relations department in delivering the media strategy which will promote our client’s services to key customer groups and provide support for their clients in the media.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Media strategy- Assist the Head of Communications in providing strategic direction for media relations at the firm
- Manage the media strategy and make strategic decisions on individual cases including briefing clients, selecting journalists for exclusives and liaising with legal teams
- Deputise for the Head of Communications as and when required
- Liaise with journalists, build relationships and manage media requests
- Manage arrangements for media interviews involving lawyers
- Assist Head of Media Relations on crisis management issues
- Monitor the media and social media for reactive opportunities and risks
Client support and stakeholder engagement
Provide comprehensive media support to clients including advice on media strategy, preparation for interviews, preparing statements and protection from media intrusion- Work with NGOs and other stakeholders on media cases and coordinate joint press strategies
- Attend court hearings to manage media interest and support clients and legal teams
- Attend media interviews to support clients where necessary
- Liaise with lawyers on media stories and proactively engage with the legal teams to ensure media opportunities are maximised and risks are identified
- Draft, review and edit press releases, legal briefings and comments from spokespeople
- Editing and reviewing blogs
- Analyse and report on media coverage
- Assist with in-house media training
Other responsibilities- To assist in maintaining cover for the press office in the evenings and weekends as required
- Provide support and guidance to the wider press office team
- Working with the wider marketing team to maintain content quality
- Any other tasks that might from time to time be required.
Essential- Genuine interest to work with a leading claimant law firm and passionate about providing access to justice to all.
- At least five years’ experience in public relations at senior/management level or equivalent newsroom experience
- Relevant news and media knowledge
- Proven ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally.
- Experience working with vulnerable individuals to support them in media campaigns, prepare them for media interviews and protect them from media intrusion
- Demonstrable experience of working within a busy environment and independently managing projects on tight deadlines. Excellent time management skills are essential
- Knowledge of relevant media law including defamation and contempt
- Demonstrable experience in building strong working relationships with journalists, senior stakeholders and team members.
- Proven ability in demonstrating patience, resilience and flexibility whilst managing daily tasks and stakeholder relationships.
- Intermediate level proficiency in working with MS Office (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Outlook), HTML & CMS platforms.
- Demonstrable enthusiasm and motivation to grow within a marketing function and gain further marketing knowledge.
Desirable- Experience in media monitoring, media database and graphic software would be desirable.
